' jess integrates the viewer into her interior space.   physically and emotionally we are allowed to step into her emotional world, which is defined through her interior and exterior surrounding.   using a nineteenth century photographic technique to present her images on vellum and albumen prints, she also points out the need to physically connect with the material, its fragility and uniqueness....'

While some write poetry, I make photographs in the same way… subjective feelings about things specific or otherwise. It is the metaphysical nature of my work -- the realm of life through the subjective experience. With delayed shutter and 19th century processes of the past, I am attempting to slow time. A moment passes so quickly -- fleeting thoughts and emotions of which we take so little time to surrender -- the poetry of the moment in space and time. It is not the nature of reality I see, but a slipping into the space between conscious and subconscious.
